READ about her personal life!

July 2010

This was a really ... well relaxing month. I have been enjoying the summer and the time with friends. I am learning the beauties of nature shouldn't be taken for granted and neither should friendships and love. Basically the life lessons that we all learn and need to re-learn on a regular basis have been impacting me of late. I miss my family and seeing their joys and sharing their sorrows, but I know that I am where I am supposed to be and doing what I love. I want to work hard, but sometimes hardly working. The blessing and curse of being a fledgling actress! In the immortal words of Porky the Pig, "Tha....t's All Folks!".

June 2010

This has been a great month! I took a class on a new sport and it was amazing. The sport is Parkour which is French for "ohmigoodness I'm gonna be sore tomorrow"! But really it is a fantastic endeavor, although like most athletic ventures for me of late it proves I'm prone to injury. For those of you that don't know Parkour is the means of getting from one place to another using as little effort as possible and not avoiding any obstacles, but simply overcoming them somehow. (Like life should be.) If you have seen any Youtube videos of people dashing over rooftops, and climbing random walls, that is advanced Parkour. I just took a beginning class with amazing professionals from the MTV Ultimate Parkour challenge - Really cute guys that were very nice and encouraging. We did rolls and vaults over padded blocks, some twisting on a trampoline and my favorite climbing around on an adult version of monkeybars, that's what I was best at! I even was shown and started working on an advanced move: jumping from a small pole just off the ground to grab a small wooden grip 5 feet away and 6 feet in the air and land with my feet perpendicular to the wall, ie up by my chest. Really cool and I landed it several times. I did twist my ankle a little, but kept going anyway. Then the last vault of the night I was doing a shoulder roll across the block when my right ring and pinky were the only fingers that caught the edge of the block and they got pulled back toward my wrist and my wrist got wrenched around. I wasn't screaming in pain, but I knew it was not ideal. I think I just pulled some of the ligaments, so I've been wrapping it and keeping use of it to a minimum while slowly doing some physical therapy to help it heal. It has been a couple of weeks, but it is still a little tender. I blame my slow-healing gene, and my bull-headedness to keep using it when I probably shouldn't have, lol.  Ah well, the sport is amazing and I'm excited to take more classes as soon as I heal up enough to hurt myself again, haha!!

Other than that one cool experience the rest of the month was pretty standard, auditioning, shooting, submitting, working, working, working - Yay. I'm building up my resume and seeking new/improved representation. Yee-haw that is a fun experience. ;)

I also want to make sure I say a public CONGRATS to my friend Priscilla who just got married at the end of the month. Yippee!!! I had a great time tearing up the dance floor with you. :D

Whew this has been a long one, but I'm sure July will be one for the record books. Always looking up - Kalia

May 2010

Wow this month has been up and down. I've done a lot of hustling and a little work. Some ventures were fun, and others fell through. I know that is the industry so I'm just gonna have to learn from it and go forward. As far as my personal life. I have a new roommate and one on the way. I'm excited to get everything finalized with the living situation so that I can focus all of my attention once again on my career and the opportunities that are waiting for me. I also love having so many friends supporting me locally and through facebook.  I really do appreciate all the comments and suggestions. Thanks for everyone that is giving me encouragement and just watching my star rise.

Lots of Love!

April 2010

Quite a few people have been asking what I am doing to grow my acting career, or what does it take. Here's a quick overview of the process and where I'm at:

The acting thing is so simple it is complicated. I need to get an agent who will get me auditions for Union work that will then Taft-Hartley me into SAG (where all the money jobs come from) and then I continue with them or another agency and just go on auditions until I am a huge star. At this time I am submitting for and auditioning when accepted for smaller/unpaid roles that I can put on my reel (that is a demo video to show people my skills) and add credits to my resume. With this I can go to agents and show them my work and interview until someone accepts me (then continue to look for better agencies thereafter in perpetuity until I am with the best agent in the best agency in town, etc). In the meantime I can also try to do Extra work and fight to earn rare SAG vouchers, which if I earn three I would become eligible to join SAG (SAG is Screen Actors Guild, or the Union). Ideally I would like to be SAG-eligible right now because then I could work on non-union projects without penalty, but also be offered roles that are union. Currently I have done some Extra or Background work, but no vouchers received. I have interviewed with a couple of agents commercially and theatrically. Still working convincing them that I would be an amazing client for them. Commercial agents submit talent to book on commercials that appear on tv and internet. Theatrical agents work to cast for just about everything else: movies, tv, made for tv movies, music videos ... although ironically, not theatre.

So there was a not so quick overview, but if someone still has a question let me know.  :)

March 2010

Whew what a whirlwind this year has been thus far! First I have to say that I have fantastic friends here in LA. They gave me a wonderful surprise birthday party. So sneaky they were. It was a Thursday night but there were still about 15-16 people that came. Second I quit my job! Yes, even in this economy, lol. I am now working on my acting career full-time. I work much longer hours, but it is all in pursuit of something that I absolutely love and a product that I can really believe in - ME. I have been auditioning daily and am beginning to book work - in fact I have had to turn down a couple of opportunities because my schedule has become that full. I am currently seeking new representation, ie a commercial or theatrical agent or a respectable manager. I am looking for someone who will believe in me and what I can do, and provide the connections I need. If anyone has any connections no matter how small, let me know and I will pursue it. Thanks for everyone who has been supporting me this whole time and continues to give me hope for my future success.

16 June 2009

Today is a Wonderful day... I became an Aunt!! Surprisingly it was a boy, so I don't know his name yet, but I am very excited to meet him one day soon. My sis-in-law Cecily went into Labor last night/early morning and by 11:30am MDT he was born - Yippee!! It is surreal, since I have been disconnected through most of the process, but I'm sure it will sink in when I hold him in my arms for the first time.

On another wonderful note my brother Brett has left for his mission. He was called to go to the Philippines and went into the MTC Weds June 10th. My sister Alicia was also called on a mission, and she will be going to Italy... Lucky! She leaves on July 15th.

My mom and sister Alicia came and visited me for a few days. It was fabulous and exhausting... so many things to see/do. I went home for almost a week to see my brother off and my pregnant sis-in-law; it was refreshing and fun.

Hope everyone else is making wonderful memories and living life to the fullest!

Mwah- Kalia

Yesterday was my Birthday and it was FABULOUS!! I went to Disneyland!!!! (it's Free on your b-day). I went with my best friend LiAna Dumas. It wasn't that crowded and it was a beautiful day. For dinner we went to the ESPN zone and they had my name on the Ticker Tape wishing me a Happy 20th Birthday!! It was great to see my name up in Lights. It was a perfect and wonderful day. (Pictures coming soon) I wish everyone could have as pleasant and purely happy a day as me. Thanks to all who sent me texts, calls, and wishes.

I Love You All!

11 February 2009

Well...Happy New Year!

I know it's not exactly new anymore, but we decided it is fine to say at least until Valentine's Day. I am having a wonderful time learning the ropes of "real life". I am making mistakes and finding out new things every day. I don't think I could ask for a better/tougher place to discover things about myself and the world around me. I pray everyday for a better tomorrow for myself, my loved ones and the world. I know I seem very philosophical right now, but I believe in these tough times we can either face it or run, and I choose to take it head on.

Here's to the world and my family! And remember it can only get better unless we do nothing.

8 December 2008

Hey Friends -Merry Christmas!

I am enjoying the sunshine and warm weather, but am excited to go back to Idaho for a couple weeks of family, fun, and snow. Life is grand and I have great friends who make it fabulous. I'm hopeful for the future and a fantastic new year and wish everyone the same.

Love to all near and far, and know I'm thinking of you where ever you are!

30 October 2008

Happy Halloween! {:-D) -that's a pumpkin. Hope everyone is in a CREEPY-good mood. It's kinda hard for me, because I have always associated the chilly weather with this holiday, but it has been in the upper 90's here lately! So right now I'm not-so-much in the spooky mood. I don't know what I'm going to be yet, but hey in LA everyone is a character.

For those of you who are wondering my ankle is doing better. For those of you who don't know- a few weeks ago I was playing soccer and I came down on another player's foot. I couldn't stand up and a friend had to drive me home. I didn't see a doctor until several days later (I was being stubborn) and I found out that I have a doozy of a sprain. He said it's a "severe high ankle sprain", "more painful than a break and takes longer to heal". It has not been the funnest experience of my life, but I it actually has not been so bad either. I continue to learn fundamental principles like: patience, who my true friends are, and medical boots are more expensive than normal boots and you only get one at a time. But the most important lesson that people continually remind me of is- I shouldn't play soccer when I don't have insurance. : (

I am looking forward to a healthier brighter future and holiday season.  I also hope that everyone is doing good things and praying really hard during this tumultuous election time.

11 September 2008

What a tragically momentous day! On a day like this it makes me grateful for every blessing I have, especially the loved ones who've touched my heart and have impacted me for the better every day. To every one of you I would like to say THANK YOU! I know that whatever I am and whatever I will be, is because of what you have invested in my life and shared with me. I love you all and wish I could tell you all in person. Maybe one day!

In the meanwhile -Life is great and I'm having a blast!! I am becoming a better me, and learning new things about myself and how life and business really work. I have incredible friends who are there for me no matter what, and a wonderful group supporting from a distance. I am having fun living 10 mins from Hollywood where I go every weekend and enter the Sat Matinee raffle for WICKED. $25 tix for the front row -can't beat that. I've won a couple of times and it is way worth the effort! Work is hard sometimes, but not having money is worse. Thanks for all the emails and love. My prayers go out to you all. :^)

12 May 2008

I'm now in LA! I have an apt, I'm making new friends, and I'm learning the lay of the land. I'm learning the hard way that everything costs at least twice as much as I'm used to, I have to buy water! -such a foreign concept. I'm also trying to furnish the apt, including furniture and appliances -ouch. I now live in a tiny room with a tiny tv watching watching whatever the antenae will pick up and using a vcr with vhs tapes cause they're cheaper.  Well, I'm just excited to be here and working toward my dream. If anyone is curious, send me an email and I'll send more details -including my love life!?!

12 March 2008

Yesterday was my B-Day and it turned out pretty good.  I turned 19!  For those of you confused, just give me a call and I'll explain it.  I haven't had my party yet, and apparently nobody reads this website anyway cause no one called, so email kalia@kaliamarlu.com  My plans are to leave for LA on April 7th.  Good news -I bought a car!  It's an Optima -A Kia from Korea for Kalia -haha. It's comfortable, drives well, and still under warranty.  Now I need a place to stay and a job, though not necessarily in that order.  Right now, I'm working on additional prospects for recording and training.

thanks to all who have supported me thus far and are just waiting to see me shine, it won't be long now.  :D

16 February 2008

I'm off to SoCal in about a month.  Aaaahhh!  I'm not exactly ready, but if anyone has sage advice, random comments, or cash awards please send them my way.  I also am planning a party for the 8th of March and anyone that contacts me via email or phone will be invited personally by me. Also any prospects regarding men, jobs, or most importantly a CAR!! would also be considered.  For future contact info keep this page bookmarked as a favorite and check it often.

14 January 2008

Well, it's the New Year and I am getting ready to go to Hollywood.  I still have a lot to do and am pretty anxious as well as excited.  I have almost had a new car twice now, but it fell through both times.  Oh well, the big van is better on the snowy roads.  : )  I am going to miss so many of you and the smiles and encouragement you give.  Please know that no matter where you are right now, I am thinking of you and hoping for the best to come your way in this wonderful New Year.

Smiles and Love,

K

12 November 2007

Hello Friends -I'm still in IF and getting pretty antsy.  I am currently in the IFYAC production of The Music Man and having a great time.  I love all my new friends -young and old.  Thanks for the support and love.  Remember who you are, and who I am.  E-mail me, I feel friendless sometimes.  No-I did not make it on American Idol, but I recently won an Un-idol competition as the worst singer -it was all an act, I promise.  Hoping the best for all.

7 May 2007

It's me again!  I'm having a great time working at Potato Products of Idaho (PPI).  [Yeah, I know Idaho & Potatoes, how cliche]  I work many hours a week and have to commute from IF to Rigby everyday, but it is worth it.  I'm trying to be healthy, but that of course is always an uphill battle.  My knee is doing a ton better, I rarely notice it anymore, except when I go dancing ; )  No love of my life yet, but I'm keeping my eyes open.  I miss everyone and wish I could give you all a big hug [HUG!!!] Sending my love and best wishes.
